A Deep Connection Between Indoors and Outdoors

Following our collaboration on Inwood Residence, we once again joined forces with A Parallel Architecture to bring Rollingwood Residence to life.
This project presented a unique challenge: creating a warm, family-oriented retreat along a bustling thoroughfare while ensuring a sustainable and resilient design that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural environment.

The client tasked the design team with crafting a sanctuary that balances privacy and a strong connection to nature. From the early design phases, the focus was on maximizing outdoor living spaces and landscaped areas, shaping an architectural form that harmonizes with its setting. The siting strategy embraced the existing tree canopy, leveraging it for both aesthetic and functional benefits while also incorporating stormwater mitigation measures to protect neighboring properties.

The interplay between the residence’s interior and exterior spaces was carefully curated to foster a deep sense of harmony. Lush greenery takes center stage, with great attention given to preserving heritage oaks and pecan trees. These trees not only provide shade and privacy but also enhance the home’s connection to its natural surroundings. Additionally, a series of functional outdoor spaces were strategically positioned to optimize solar control, ensuring protection from Texas’ intense sun while creating inviting outdoor living areas.

The use of our Corso Terra bricks played an important role in achieving this seamless integration, adding warmth and character to the residence. These bricks were chosen for both their aesthetic and functional qualities, as seen in the living room, where the fireplace is clad in them, serving as a central feature.

They are also widely used outdoors, reinforcing the continuity between interior and exterior spaces, which are further defined by a rain garden and a versatile pavilion that extends over the rolling lawn and can transform into a fully screened porch when needed.

The master bedroom enjoys serene views of this private oasis, while the master bath overlooks a secluded garden, enhancing the sense of retreat. A floating staircase leads to a light-filled family room, offering a unique vantage point over the lively neighborhood street. The playroom, featuring a chalkboard-clad sliding wall, can be easily separated from the main bedroom hallway, which culminates in a guest suite with a private terrace framing a stunning heritage pecan tree—one of the defining elements of the rear courtyard.

Rollingwood Residence stands as a testament to thoughtful design, where architecture, materials, and nature come together to create a home both connected to its environment and private.
